Toyota Matrix - like? dislike?
I'm thinking about leasing a new Matrix, but also thinking about a Ford Focus or Dodge Caliber. I know Toyota has them both beat hands down as far as quality, but since I'll be leasing and not buying it out, that's not as much of an issue. I'm just looking for your likes and dislikes of this model. Thanks! The reason I'm looking at these three...

The Matrix is a very realiable car, it has a small engine, but still pulls hard. Definitely choose the Toyota Matrix it will be more of a pleasure driving it than the other choices you considered.

Just bought a 2005 Matrix XR for 14200 US$ with full warranty until 2012. It had 15000 miles when I bought it and it's a great car. I highly recommend it.

Flickering Headlights on '05 Toyota Matrix?
For the past 3 weeks, my headlights have been flickering at night ( usually within the first 5-10 minutes of driving, especially over bumps). A few times they shut off completely, only to come back to normal within a few seconds. I took it to the dealership and they couldn't find anything wrong, so they just changed the bulbs. it obviously is an electrical issue. My friend had a civic that there was something wrong with the switch to turn on his headlights and if he were to accidentally touch it or hit a bump his headlights would shut off which is pretty scary going down a dark road, and he would just mess around with it...

Why should I also consider these? X

Through last year, there was a nearly identical Pontiac version of the Matrix, called the Vibe, but that model has been discontinued with the Pontiac brand.

The Scion xD, Toyota's own brand, is one of the top rivals to the Matrix.

It's based on the smaller Yaris hatchback but has a taller stance and a roomier interior than the Yaris.

The Honda Fit is a smaller vehicle, but its inherent roominess and trick Magic Seat arrangement kick it into the same group; it's fun to drive, too.

Otherwise, most of the rivals to the Matrix are more carlike.

The Mazda3 hatchback is more enjoyable to drive, but it has a tight backseat and sacrifices some cargo space for its rakish roofline.

It's been redesigned this year with even slicker design details and improved refinement.

All-wheel drive is standard on the Subaru Impreza, though even in hatchback form, it doesn't feel quite as roomy as the Matrix, while the new Elantra Touring is a tall-wagon version of the Elantra sedan and worth considering for those who want to maximize interior space while still getting good fuel economy.
