Very mixed news for you. Your 2003 Vitara does not have a timing belt (which is good, because it would probably have failed by now), it has a timing chain. Replacing that, if required, would be about $1100 - $1600, mostly labor. Modern timing chains normally don't need replacement but it...

Just had a quick look at the Difflock forum. Looks like they are a rarity. http://forum.difflock.com/viewtopic.php?p=331919&sid=eb62bf52201d9f417b60904c93060dff The box section suggestion is a good one and certainly works on LR Discoverys.
