Help...is my mechanic ripping me off?
I have a 1999 Subaru legacy outback. A few weeks ago it over heated. It stalled and coolant dripped out. The oil was low, even though I'd had it changed and filled about 2500 miles prior. The mechanic said it needed a new thermostat, a new oil pump and oil pan. That cost about 600.00 They also said to get the AC recharged, so I did at 150.00 Two...

That means you are misfiring. If it is continuing I would stop driving it and get it in to be looked at as soon as possible. A misfire can be something small but if it's doing it continuously, you could be doing some damage.

I have a '02 Legacy Outback 2.5L with 89K. I am sure it has the phase II engine. If it is leaking coolant then it is already too late. Don't drive your car or you risk warping the cylinder bores. The coolant conditioner bulletin was dated for use back when your car was 2 - 3 years old and is therefore a time sensitive measure. The use of non Subaru coolant causes the...
