I just bought a 2008 Subaru Forester from a private party. What should I do to it?
It has 18,000 miles. Obviously, I'm going to get an oil change right away. However, Subaru people, anything you know that I should do to keep this vehicle running for a very long time? Any specific air filter, oil, etc? Tips are much appreciated, I guess this goes with any car. This isn't what I mean... I bought the car already, I mean what are...

2008 Subaru Forester XS fuel consumption indicator?
Just wondering if anyone has had any similar issues. My meter has been the same for the last three months, sitting on 10.6L per 100km. This has never changed no matter what the driving conditions (open roads, highway, city driving). All of a sudden I started the car this afternoon and it came up at 9.4L then when I started driving around the town...

Sounds like the fuel level sending unit is broken. Is your check engine light on?

What are these extra covers in my 2008 Subaru Forester for?
They are irregularly shaped and have elastic loops on the corners.

Look in the back behind the last row of seats. You should have some hooks there the the loops will fit over. They are cargo nets or cargo covers that help hold things in place.

Why should I also consider these? X

The Honda CR-V has been completely redesigned for 2008, and it has a very spacious interior, with comfortable seating and a smooth ride.

The CR-V is also more fuel-efficient, but it just isn't much fun to drive and it's not as rugged when taking on the rutted trail to a campsite.

The Outlander is a different type of crossover; it also caters more to on-road performance, but it has a decidedly sporty character, with a firm ride and very crisp handling.

On paper, it competes closely with the 2008 Subaru Forester, but in reality, it's quite a bit heavier and just doesn't feel as nimble.

However, both of these models have the Forester beat for refinement.

Another choice, for those who appreciate the Forester's boxiness and city-friendliness, is the Scion xB.

The Scion has a lower price than the Forester, with a similar nimble feel on the road, and it's more fuel-efficient.

However, it doesn't have the rugged ability or the all-wheel drive of the Subaru.
