Has anyone had any experiences good or bad with their Montero. It's my first car and I've had it about 4 months now. Anybody used it off-road?

My 1997 Montero is backfiring and making popping noises when I cold start it.?
Once the engine is warmed up I can shut it off and re-start it without all the drama it gives me during a cold start. Another thing it is blowing "gray" smoke out the tail pipe. It continues to blow the smoke out even after reaching normal operating tempature. just looking for a few psooibily problems before I take it in to the shop. Thanks,

About 3 years ago I have the crankshaft pulley/pin replaced and it cost me nearly $800. A while back I started it up and all of the warning lights came one, so I looked under the hood and none of the pulleys were turning. I shut it off and haven't turned it back on. What would cause this and is the crankshaft pulley and harmonic balancer the same...
