Is a front mount intercooler street legal on a car factory equiped with a top mount? does it need carb approva?

i own a mazdaspeed 3 and it come with a top mount intercooler. now i am looking at kits like cobbs fmic and wanted to know the legality of a fmic in cali? is it only legal to get a upgrade if 1. its a direct replacement and 2. has carb approval? thanks all.

it shouldn't be a problem. all an intercooler does is cool the air from the turbo before it goes back into the intake. there are no chemicals, or emissions from getting a front mount intercooler. besides, if your car already has an intercooler, then it is just an oem replacement, just relocated...

Mazdaspeed 3 Modifications?

Lookin to get some mods, I've looked at the CAI prob mazdaspeed brand or AEM, Turbosmart blow off valve, and was looking for a downpipe to open up. does anyone know how i can have these installed without voiding warranty, and also any other suggestions?

If you get an intake with a CARB # on it then your warranty will still be intact....anything else such as downpipe and BOV will void the warranty. Here is what you do....buy bolt on parts...intake, downpipe, exhaust, BOV. And if you ever have to take your car in to the dealer...just take off these...

i just recently purchase a mazdaspeed 3 and i didnt know about the speed6 i was racing one and he pretty much beat me.... i though they were the same is there any difference? if so how come they dont sell them anymore all i saw was speed3. thanks!!!!

Both cars have manual transmissions only (the "speed" cars aren't available with the automatic), so that isn't it. Both cars have pretty much the same turbocharged engine and 6 speed, but the 6 has AWD where your 3 is FWD. Was this race under such conditions where that would have been a big...
