How much can a 2002 Jeep Liberty tow WITHOUT the factory tow package?
I have a 2002 Jeep Liberty Limited with the 3.7L V-6. I do not have the factory tow package. I have installed my own class IIIhitch. The only number I can find in my indoor sticker is the GVWR is 5600#. I am looking to tow an 18 ft boat. The boat, trailer and motor weigh 3000#. The jeep itself weighs 3850#. Is this really safe to tow with this...

No NO and no..you just don't have enough vehicle period, sorry. The Jeep will be under braked with the load, and overstressed in the transmission and cooling system. If you still want to do it, I'd install a heavier rad and transmission cooler and brakes on the boat trailer if possible, otherwise...

I like Quaker State Oil, but they are all probably the same. I like it because my first car was given to me by my grandfather, and that is what he used every 3000 miles. I did the same, and when I got rid of the car the engine was the only thing that was original and working perfect, at 186,000...

It's not actually an error code. It's just a printed portion of the dashboard. If it appears to be illuminated, it may be caused by reflection or light bleeding through. However, it does not signify a fault in your vehicle.

2002 Jeep Liberty 3.7L overheating when defogger is on.?
My Jeep has been overheating hte past 2 days when I turn on the defogger. I notice that the engine starts to rattle and one pulley keep spinning and stopping when I do this. When I turn on A/C on or defogger off, the Jeep is fine. Any help? I took it to mechanics yesterday and they did the pressure test. They came back saying I needed a new...

The ventilation might be clogged but I'm not sure if that would do it. I know I had an overheating problem and it was due to the thermostat. Take off your radiator cap and let the jeep warm up. When it reaches the temp that the thermostat should kick in, check the fluid of the raidator. If its...

Other Choices

Why should I also consider these? X

If you really want genuine Jeep performance, the 2009 Liberty doesn’t disappoint.

If you want something that just looks like it could go off road, there are better choices.

Among those more carlike choices are the Subaru Forester, which has a tough all-wheel-drive system that can even take on muddy, rutted trails.

The RAV4 is styled closer to an SUV, but it's more carlike; inside you can specify a small third-row seat.

Honda's CR-V is one of the smoothest-riding and most fuel-efficient, and it's a good choice for those who don't plan to venture off-road.

For those who want hardy off-road alternatives and really plan to take to the trail, the Nissan Xterra is a good choice, especially if you have a lot of equipment to haul around.

And for off-road fashionistas, the FJ Cruiser is a hot ride.
