2005 Jeep Liberty with 30K miles - just started intermittent engine pinging - suggestions about the cause?
Getting some minor pinging and need some suggestions about what might be causing it. The Liberty has had all recommended maintenance and I've been using synthetic oil. I thought engine pinging was about spark plugs or wires, but was told by a garage it could have to do with low oil or something not being lubricated properly. Thoughts? The oil...

Check your maintenance schedule. That vehicle requires spark plugs to be changed at 30,000mi. (as well as some other services). If you take it to a qualified technician with a proper scan tool you will probably find a code P0300 and maybe other missfire codes. It's likely just due for a tune-up...

yeah, you'll need to reach in with a small screw driver and poke at it, lift, just basically "jiggle" it. The usually will come out with a little proding. Worst case, you'll need to pop the radio out and the dealer can send in for repairs. Real reasonable, and you'll get your cd back, unharmed(if...

Other Choices

Why should I also consider these? X

If you really want genuine Jeep performance, the 2009 Liberty doesn’t disappoint.

If you want something that just looks like it could go off road, there are better choices.

Among those more carlike choices are the Subaru Forester, which has a tough all-wheel-drive system that can even take on muddy, rutted trails.

The RAV4 is styled closer to an SUV, but it's more carlike; inside you can specify a small third-row seat.

Honda's CR-V is one of the smoothest-riding and most fuel-efficient, and it's a good choice for those who don't plan to venture off-road.

For those who want hardy off-road alternatives and really plan to take to the trail, the Nissan Xterra is a good choice, especially if you have a lot of equipment to haul around.

And for off-road fashionistas, the FJ Cruiser is a hot ride.
