My understanding is that AWD means just that, 4WD vehicles have the ability to go to 2WD, but not AWD. Subaru and Audi are famous for their AWD systems, why would you want 2WD when you can have AWD anyway?

All you need is a blower motor resistor pack... but with the questions you are asking, take it in and have it repaired. Doesn't cost that much. As far as your gas mileage, this has nothing to do with it..... do you need to tune the car up, that is what it sounds like.

Has it a service history ? Would first check on the timing belt and carry on with services each 5000 miles. Well cared for it should reach 300,000 miles.
