do you have a check engine light on? the most likely cause of what you are describing is a vacuum leak. What kind of explorer? sport trac or 4 door? Reference:Ford Tech

I need to adjust my brake light switch on my 2003 ford explorer. please help!!?
I am not sure how to adjust the brake light switch. Its brand new and i tested it and it has 12 volts running though well. I clipped it back in place to the brake pedal, still no brake lights coming on.. PLEASE, ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

can u manually press the switch for the lights to come on? if you can't, then you probably should replace the switch.
