It is more than likely a cluster failure which is the harness that runs all the gauges. You can have it replaced. Reference:Gm dealer for 10 years and counting.

How many quarts of oil does a 1999 Chevrolet Malibu take?
I might be getting this car today and would like to know how much oil this car requires. I only know it uses 5w30.
