BMW 7 Series Question?
Hello, I'm inheriting my grandfather's old BMW 1999 740i. He's put on alot of miles on the car 155k and he said the car probably only has a couple years left in it. He's taken great care of it, regular tuning, changes, etc so I'm kinda shocked to hear he said it only has a couple years left. He said the only problem hes had with it was the cooling...

Only the tech knows what he's talking about! The other two have never and do not own BMW's or they wouldn't have answered that way. $5,000 a year... that's insane! Expect to pay about $1000 to $1500 a year. I actually OWN two BMW's and have owned a total of 8 and they are not expensive to maintain...

How many miles can a typical BMW Go for?
Just wondering how many miles can someone get out of a 3, 5, or 7 series BMW without having to start putting a lot of money into it? Any known defects that I should look for if buying used?

How long a bimmer lasts is directly related to how much care is given to the car. I've seen countless examples of high mileage BMWs running beautifully, for example, a 1987 325is with 172,000, a 1992 750iL with 190,000 (my mechanic's), 1985 635Ci with 184,000, and the list is unending...

Have you tried BMW? They might be able to answer your question for you, or even Mercedes. What did you want to ask him?

The BMW 7-Series is smart to pick its fights mostly with the Mercedes S-Class and Audi A8.

Today's S-Class looks imposing, but doesn't quite have its styling act honed.

Its AMG-gone-wild editions one-up the BMW's lightly done Alpina edition.

The next Audi A8 gains some distinction, but we have serious reservations about its Palm Pilot-like controller for audio and navigation.

The Jaguar XJ is the sexy alternative, radically removed from its stuffy past with an aero body, a swinging new interior, and amazing backseat room.

Remove the backseat, make it even more gorgeous and expensive, and you have the utterly fantastic but impractical Aston Martin Rapide.

Want tire-smoking performance and backseat space, but don't care much about aesthetic perfection? The Porsche Panamera hits all those notes, with a 0-60 mph time of about 3.3 seconds for Turbo models.
