that's strange... nothing on that vehicle should be "ATF only" the transmission uses special BMW tranny fluid, and is not accessible from the engine bay, and the power steering takes what is called CHF11S, it is green, and a similar texture to ATF.. if you put oil in that, don't run the car, use...

Will the sport package on a 2007 bmw 5 series be more significantly expensive to maintain?

No. There is no bogeyman attached to the sports suspension. A factory tuned sports suspension is simply lower and slightly stiffer. The camber and toe settings are virtually the same as a regular vehicle. There is no logical explanation to blame the sports suspension as causing higher maintenance...

both cars are very good, but I am a little partial to BMW, for me they are just better cars, more adrenaline flows in their engines...and they are easier to handle. MB are more of a status symbol and impress people more if you are looking for that. but both are very good automobiles. good luck

Low to mid 20k's ish. Depends on mileage and wear and tear on it etc.
