What do you mean the cat melted? How does that even happen? You have to be pouring gas down your exhaust or something. You need a OBDII scanner to figure out what is wrong. Bad idle is most likely a vacuum leak, although it could be many other things. Without more information its impossible to help.

Is there anything special about bleeding the brakes on a 2004 Audi S4?
I've heard it isn't possible without purchasing a special VAG tool because the stability control system (ESP).

It is true that a scan tool is needed to bleed the brakes on some Audi vehicles, but not all. In certain vehicles, the scan tool must be used to run the ABS pump in order to clear all of the air out of the system. It depends which ABS unit is on the vehicle.
