Mazda is working on an updated RX-8, and these spy photos show off some of the changes the Japanese automaker is planning for its four-door sports coupe.
Mazda has confirmed that the "heavily revised" RX-8 will be shown at the 2008 Detroit auto show this coming January.
The revamped RX-8 will make its debut in the first quarter of 2009, as a 2010 model. Although the basic layout and seating configuration will remain the same, we're expecting this to be a rather major update. Aside from the evident cosmetic changes under wraps, we're expecting some improvements to its rotary engine, particularly for the cars equipped with a manual transmission.
Although not yet confirmed, a convertible version of the RX-8 is possible for the 2011 or 2012 model year.
