Audi TT

2007 Audi TT - front2007 Audi TT - front  |
Sometimes you just can't wait. So Audi has decided to give a sneak peek of what it will formally unveil at Javits Center. It provided a brief look at the new, 2007 TT Coupe during a Berlin briefing, and as rumored, the new 2-seater will come in a wee bit longer and wider. The look is familiar, though there's a bit more sculpting to the '07 model. Ironically, the car that influenced Nissan's 350Z now looks a bit more like the Asian import. The new version will be offered with a pair of powertrains, including a 2.0-liter I-4 that can still deliver spirited 0-60 times, Audi claims, of 6.4 seconds. The 3.2-liter V-6 gets quattro all-wheel-drive, and cuts nearly a full second off that launch time, and boasts a limited top speed of 155 mph. Both engines will be mated to a 6-speed stick or an optional, sequential manual gearbox.

Nissan Plans New York Debut for New Altima

The New York auto show will be the first public display of the new 2007 Nissan Altima. A new body style arrives in 2007 on a new "D" platform, promising better body rigidity and a newly penned suspension. Nissan's Xtronic CVT will be standard on all models, while the 3.5-liter V-6 and 2.5-liter four-cylinder engines will remain on the roster. On sale in the fall of 2006, the Altima, Nissan says, will be one of the best-performing front-drive sedans on the market.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class

DaimlerChrysler is about to give a facelift to the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which has been on the market since 2003. The new version is due for launch at the New York auto show.

These photos show both a station wagon and a sedan prototype in full showroom trim during the shooting of a commercial. The restyling includes new headlights and taillights, front grille, and a revised front bumper with new fog lights.

The engine lineup for the revamped E-Class will be even more significant than the styling changes. The 5.5-liter V-8 fitted to the recently revised SL will replace the old 5.0-liter. The E350 also will benefit from a small increase in power.

Lexus LS600h

Lexus is determined to outdo its German rivals - that much became apparent at the world launch of the LS at this year's Detroit show. The new 203-inch long-wheelbase LS gets a raft of tech equipment and a 380-hp V-8. But to New York audiences, it's the hybrid model that will be on world-first display. Toyota promises the hybrid version will be "the ultimate Lexus." Count on an appearance by Andy Roddick or another collateral celebrity.

Acura RDX

Acura revealed the production prototype version of its RDX performance-oriented crossover SUV in Detroit, and a production version is due at New York. The RDX is said to combine sports-car handling with serious performance from a new 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine - Honda's first turbocharged engine for North America and Acura's first ever. Aided by the turbocharger and an i-VTEC system, the powerful engine turns out 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, running through the automaker's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system, which can redistribute torque quickly fore-aft and left-right. A five-speed sequential-shift transmission comes with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

The raked-back stance, dual exhaust tips, HID headlamps, and big 19-inch wheels give the compact crossover an aggressive and elegant appearance. The interior has seating for five, with fold-down rear seats and a cockpit theme for the front, along with a deep center console that allows laptop computer storage. The RDX also features a navigation system with voice recognition, real-time traffic alerts, and a hands-free phone link. There's also a DVD audio system for entertainment. Front, side, and curtain airbags are standard, and the system is aided by rollover sensors.

Scion's latest Release Series 2.0 will show off its goods at the New York show, too - but this time the special edition is based on the brand's two-door tC coupe. On sale in mid-April, the tC 2.0 gets Blue Blitz paint, 17-inch wheels, side and curtain airbags, and a new stainless-steel grille. A Pioneer sound system is outfitted, too, and comes with three months of standard XM service, along with an iPod jack. Scion says only 2600 copies will be built, to be sold for $18,260 each.

Suzuki XL7

These are the first pictures of the newest Suzuki XL7 a crossover ute larger than the Grand Vitara and the outgoing XL7, due at the New York show. Due in the 2007 model year, the new ute will offer three rows of seating and a V-6 engine, likely a version of the 3.4-liter V-6 that powers the other SUVs based on the same Theta architecture - the Pontiac Torrent and Chevy Equinox. Although close to the Chevrolet and Pontiac variants, the Suzuki seems to be a bit longer, making it the largest SUV that Suzuki has to offer. Also, notice the upgraded interior in these pictures, including a touch of wood trim. Production will be at the CAMI plant in Ontario, alongside the Equinox and Torrent. The still-unnamed Suzuki will be in dealerships sometime next fall.
