Forester
Subaru's "crossover" mid-size sport-utility vehicle continues for 2005 with only subtle alterations as a pleasant alternative to rougher truck-based models. Power for the base 2.5 X and 2.5 XS comes from a 165-horsepower four-cylinder engine, while the 2.5 XT offers a gutsier a 210-horsepower turbocharged 2.5-liter engine, among other upgrades. All-wheel drive and a five-speed manual gearbox come standard, with a four-speed automatic transmission optional. Dual front-side and head airbags, an AM/FM/weather band/CD stereo, air conditioning, fog lights, and keyless entry are among its myriad standard features. Meanwhile, the XS adds four-wheel disc brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, automatic air conditioning, a CD changer, heated seats, mirrors and windshield wipers, a limited-slip differential, and alloy wheels. The L.L. Bean Edition includes specially embroidered floor mats and revised alloy wheels, with its rear seatbacks and cargo floor covered with a water-resistant surface.
