The G5 isPontiac's new entry-level coupe, replacing the Sunfire. The front-wheel-drive G5 is available in one body style and two trim levels, base and performance-themed GT. The base engine is a 2.2-liter four-cylinder rated at 148 horsepower; it is available with either a Getrag-sourced five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission (with "filled for life" fluid that never needs to be changed under normal operating conditions). The optional engine (in the GT) is a 173-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder with variable valve timing and the same two transmission choices. Both base and GT trim lines come standard with A/C, power windows and door locks. However, anti-lock brakes, traction control and side-impact airbags are optional on the base model. GT models come standard with a firmer riding FE3 suspension, anti-lock brakes and 17-inch wheels, chrome exhaust tip and leather trimmed interior. Major options include a seven-speaker Pioneer stereo system, XM satellite radio, remote start and sunroof.
