(2003 model shown)
Outlander
This five-passenger compact "crossover" SUV is based on the Lancer car line and its four-wheel fully independent suspension affords reasonably nimble handling. A 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine is on hand that provides adequate acceleration and is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission that affords manual gearshifts. Both LS and XLS trim levels may be equipped with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive for added traction on wet or snowy road surfaces. Air conditioning, a CD stereo, cruise control, tilt steering wheel, power windows, and a rear defroster and wiper/washer are among its standard features. The XLS adds an upgraded stereo and upholstery, power locks and mirrors, keyless entry, roof rails, and a rear spoiler. Few changes are in the works for 2005.
