The mid-size Milan sedan was introduced last year as a new model; major updates for '07 include the availability of all-wheel drive on V-6 models and incremental updates that include now-standard anti-lock brakes, front seat side-impact and curtain airbags on all trim levels. V-6 models get standard traction control and the options list expands to include a DVD-based navigation system, Sirius satellite radio, a new rear spoiler and three new exterior colors. The Milan is based on the same platform that provides the underpinnings for the Mazda6 and the Ford Fusion and Lincoln Zephyr. The Milan has its own styling cues, of course, but like its sisters offers a roomy interior with ample legroom and expansive cargo space. There's choice of either a 160-horsepower, 2.3-liter four-cylinder or a 221-horsepower, 3.0-liter V-6; the in-line four can be mated to either a standard five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission, while the V-6 comes with a standard six-speed automatic. Riding on a four-wheel independent suspension, with four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, the front-drive Milan is intended to be reasonably sporty without sacrificing ride quality. An audiophile sound system, power moonroof, and heated leather seats remain on the options list. A hybrid gas/electric-powered version is planned for an upcoming model year.
