The SLK retractable hardtop roadster was redesigned in 2006 with styling cues inspired by the SL roadster. There are just a few changes for 2007, including an enhanced AMG Sport Package and a new Appearance Package for the base SLK280 and the SLK350. The SLK280 is powered by a 228-horsepower, 3.0-liter V-6 engine. The SLK350 features a 268-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 engine. High-performance enthusiasts can select the SLK32 AMG and its 349-hp, 3.2-liter supercharged V-6. Transmission choices include a six-speed-manual and a seven-speed-automatic gearbox with TouchShift operation. The car rides on 17-inch alloy wheels and performance tires; a lowered sport suspension is offered for more aggressive driving. The car’s interior is adorned with silver trim and switchgear, with a dashboard that flows into the door panels and an instrument panel that sports large, chronograph-style gauges. Its power retractable hardtop can incorporate an optional feature that channels warm air from vents located in the driver and passenger’s headrests for open-air use on chillier days. Standard equipment includes four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, side-impact, and knee airbags, and Mercedes’ ESP stability control system. Power heated seats, a premium Harmon Kardon audio system, and run-flat tires are optional.
