G-Class
The full-size, G-Class sport-utility vehicle is an exclusive ride, and is handcrafted in Graz, Austria. Its boxy styling makes it look like the postal vehicle for some upscale gated community. A performance-minded G55 AMG version debuted last year that's powered by a 469-horsepower, supercharged V-8 engine and sports unique chrome trim, dual side-exit exhaust pipes, and 18-inch wheels. Otherwise, the standard G500 V-8 powerplant produces 292 horsepower and 336 lb-ft of torque, and is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. Anti-lock brakes with Brake Assist and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Electronic Stability Program, a navigation system, and multi-contour power leather seats are among its many features. A Bluetooth wireless interface for similarly enabled cellular telephone and special-order paint and trim are optional. A specially badged Grand Edition G-Class is newly available for the 2006 model year.
