The Car Connection Expert Review

Lincoln's luxury edition of the same basic vehicle that's also available as the Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer continues for 2006 with only minor revisions after a mid-cycle freshening last year that included a number of interior and exterior updates. A 302-horsepower 4.6-liter V-8 engine drives either the rear- or all four wheels (in 4WD versions) via a five-speed automatic transmission. Its towing capacity is rated at 3500 pounds. With exterior and interior styling cues borrowed from its larger sibling, the Navigator, the Aviator likewise comes packed with features, including four-wheel disc anti-lock breaks with brake assist, Ford's AdvanceTrac yaw-control system with Roll Stability Control, and side-curtain airbags. Available options include a back seat DVD player, a navigation system that incorporates a THX-certified audio array, high-intensity-discharge headlamps, and heated and cooled front seats.
