XJ Series

A new flagship version of the XJ sedan - the Super V-8 Portfolio - makes its debut for 2006, coming powered by a 400-horsepower supercharged 4.2-liter V-8 and including virtually every imaginable amenity. Otherwise, the basic XJ continues to be available in both standard and roomier extended-length versions, and comes powered by a 300-horsepower 4.2-liter V-8 engine. A six-speed automatic transmission drives the rear wheels, while a four-wheel independent suspension and a full complement of chassis control systems are on hand to help smooth and sharpen the car's ride and handling qualities. Meanwhile, the sporty XJR model comes with the aforementioned supercharged V-8 and includes brake upgrades, 19-inch wheels and tires, and the otherwise optional Computer Active Technology Suspension. For 2006, chrome mesh grille inserts are added, along with an updated braking system, laminated side glass with an acoustic interlayer for better noise insulation, a tire pressure monitor, and a driver-selectable speed limiter. New options include Sirius satellite radio and Bluetooth wireless phone technology. Indigo replaces Pacific Blue, and Winter Gold replaces Topaz on the exterior color palette.
