S-Type
For 2005, the mid-size S-Type sedan gets a facelift that includes a deeper front bumper and a revised back bumper and taillamps. Inside, the vehicle's elegant interior can now be trimmed with aluminum finishes instead of wood veneers. The S-Type's frame has been reinforced to give the vehicle greater structural rigidity, which should translate into improved ride and handling characteristics and added overall refinement. The base S-Type includes a 235-horsepower V-6 engine and the choice of either a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. A 294-horsepower 4.2-liter V-8 is also available, while a sporty R model gets a 390-horsepower version of the 4.2-liter powerplant, along with Brembo brakes and Jaguar's Computer Active Technology Suspension system. The V-8s only come with the automatic gearbox, however. A new top-of-the-line Vanden Plas model offers a full complement of amenities.
