Ford’s compact, five-passenger crossover SUV gets a new Silver Appearance Package with silver metallic fascias, bodyside cladding, and wheel lip moldings. A keypad entry system is standard on XLT Sport and Limited models and the XLT Sport gets a monochromatic appearance package. There are three new color choices for 2007, too. Base and XLS versions come powered by a 2.3-liter four-cylinder powerplant that produces 153 horsepower; optional on the XLT and included with the XLT Sport and Limited versions is a 200-hp 3.0-liter V-6. Either can be mated to a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox. All-wheel drive is available across the line. A hybrid Escape was introduced last year and continues to be in demand for its performance and fuel economy. Power comes from a four-cylinder gasoline engine and electric motor that works in tandem with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. It affords V-6 power with the fuel economy of a four-cylinder engine. A Safety Canopy system designed to protect occupants in case of a rollover is available, along with side-impact airbags, navigation system, power moonroof, and a high-powered MACH audio array with multi-disc CD changer.
