The mid-size Durango sport-utility vehicle accommodates five passengers in its base version and as many as seven riders in its SLT and Limited trim levels, which include a third-row seat. A 210-horsepower V-6 engine comes with 2WD base and SLT models, while a 4.7-liter V-8 that generates 235 horsepower is included elsewhere in the line. The available HEMI 5.7-liter V-8 adds oomph with its 345 horsepower and 375 lb-ft of torque. A four-speed automatic transmission is standard, while a five-speed version is included with 4WD and Limited models. Standard equipment is plentiful, with options including side curtain airbags that are designed to protect occupants in all three rows of seats and a rear DVD entertainment system. Relatively minor updates for 2006 include new, more prominent HEMI badging on 5.7-liter models that's larger by 36 percent. A luxury-oriented Chrysler version, to be called Aspen, will be spun off next summer as a 2007 model.
