Coming in both sedan and Avant wagon versions, with quattro all-wheel-drive standard, this sportier version of the A4 offers exceptional performance thanks to its 340-horsepower 4.2-liter V-8 engine. This remains the only eight-cylinder powerplant to be offered among European compact sport sedans. It can be mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission with manual control function. For 2007, the S4 gets upgraded with new “DTM” exterior bumpers, with front and rear carbon fiber trim available as an option. Eighteen-inch wheels and a sunroof are standard. Also, Alcantara interior color combinations have been increased; both the ebony/ebony and silver/silver combinations are available. Finally, brake calipers on all S4 models are painted glossy black.
Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, the latest version of Audi’s Electronic Stabilization Program, traction control, and front-seat side-impact and curtain airbags all come standard. Other distinguishing characteristics include color-contrasting titanium-colored inner housings, a rear spoiler on the sedan, and aluminum roof rails on the wagon — along with dual exhaust pipes and sport seats.
