Coming in both regular- and long-wheelbase L versions, the full-size A8 sedan blends comfort and performance with quiet elegance inside and out. The standard-length model comes powered by a 350-horsepower 4.2-liter V-8 engine (up from 330 horsepower in ’06). The step-up engine for L models is a 6.0-liter W12 engine rated at 450 horsepower. This fall, a 450 horsepower 5.2 liter V-10 will be available in the high-performance S8 variant. A six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission is standard. An adaptive air suspension affords four separate ride settings to suit various drivers and conditions. Four-wheel anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Audi’s Electronic Stabilization Program are included. A long list of premium features includes a DVD navigation system with Audi’s Multi-Media Interface (MMI). A Bang & Olufsen Advanced Audio System with 1000 watts and 14 speakers is available optionally, along with Sirius satellite radio and MP3 capability.
