2016 Nissan Titan XD Priced From $41,485

December 22, 2015

Prices for the 2016 Nissan Titan XD will start at $41,485 including destination, the automaker announced today.

The XD is the first of a new generation of Nissan full-size pickup trucks to be launched. The XD model in particular has been designed to tackle some heavy-duty needs while narrowly remaining, by definition, a light-duty pickup.

Specifications for the Titan XD include a standard bed length of 6.5 feet, a crew-cab body style, and a new 5.0-liter Cummins turbodiesel engine standard. It's rated at 310 horsepower and 555 pound-feet of torque, and it's coupled to a six-speed automatic. Towing is rated at a maximum of 12,314 pounds.

XD Crew Cab models ride on a 151.6-inch wheelbase, or roughly 20 inches longer than other Titan trucks. Eventually, the Titan will come in three cab styles--Single Cab, King Cab, and Crew Cab--and three overall lengths.

Early next year, V-6 and V-8 gasoline engines will be made available.

Titan XD prices start in S trim, where standard features include power windows; cruise control; a sliding rear window; remote keyless entry; and an AM/FM audio system with a USB port and Bluetooth audio streaming. Four-wheel-drive Titan XD S trucks are priced from $44,485.

Rising through SV, SL, PRO-4X, and Platinum trim levels, the Titan XD tops out in currently available trim levels at $61,715, where lavish equipment includes blind-spot monitors, leather seating, satellite radio, navigation, and open-pore wood trim.

On the options list are various convenience and utility packages, including a towing package; an option to delete the standard blind-spot monitors; a comfort and convenience package; and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system. Factory-installed accessories include running boards, a tailgate lock, a bed liner with built-in storage, and splash guards.

For a tow-rating comparison, the base Ford F-250 Super Duty trucks are priced from about $33,000, with top versions passing the $58,000 mark--nearly all versions of which can match the Titan XD's tow rating. The F-150, in regular-cab, twin-turbo-six and rear-drive trim, is rated to tow 12,200 pounds.

In our review, we said "By heavy-duty standards, the truck steers and handles nicely. Ride quality is a bit easier in the Titan XD than in the heavy-duty pickups, such as the Ford F-250 and F-350 and Ram 3500 that we test-drove at the same time. By comparison, the F-150, Ram 1500, and GMC Sierra 1500 felt like they were floating on clouds. Neighborhood streets were the most painful for the HD pickups, including the Titan XD, but out on the highway they were all comfortable."

The Titan XD diesel is now on sale. Assembly takes place at Nissan's plant in Canton, Miss. Gas-powered models arrive in spring, and the rest of the new Titan lineup will follow through 2016.
