2014 Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia Recalled For Fuel Gauge Glitch

Follow Richard

General Motors is recalling 2014 models of the Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, and GMC Acadia. According to a bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, some of those SUVs may have faulty fuel gauges that could misrepresent the amount of gas that's actually in the tank.

The problem stems from a glitch in the engine control module software. NHTSA explains that the flaw may cause drivers to think they have more fuel on hand than they truly do, which boosts the risk of running out of gas or stalling. And that, of course, increases the risk of an accident.

The recall affects vehicles manufactured between March 26 and August 15, 2013. All told, NHTSA says that the recall includes some 51,640 SUVs registered in the U.S.

The fix for the problem involves reprogramming the engine control module, but GM hasn't indicated when it will begin the recall in earnest. When it does, owners will be instructed to take their vehicles to Buick, Chevrolet, and GMC dealers, who will perform the upgrade free of charge.

If you believe that you own one of the affected vehicles and have questions in the meantime, you're encouraged to contact the customer service department at Buick (800-521-7300), Chevrolet (800-222-1020), or GMC (800-462-8782) and ask about recall # 14007. Alternately, you can call NHTSA at 888-327-4236 and ask about campaign #14V223000.
