Subaru is set to reveal its all-new 2015 WRX STI at the Detroit Auto Show next week, but before its arrival the Japanese automaker is showing a new racing version designed to compete in the Nürburgring 24 Hours. The new race car will be fielded by STI in what will be the Subaru in-house tuner’s seventh consecutive outing in one of the world’s toughest endurance races.
These are the latest spy shots of a prototype for Mercedes-Benz’s updated CLS-Class. The second generation of the CLS, which spans both sedan and shooting brake wagon bodystyles, was introduced for the 2012 model year so it's now about due for a mid-cycle update, which will most likely arrive in time for the 2015 model year though we may see it delayed until the 2016 model year.
Mazda will delay the U.S. launch of its 2.2-liter "SkyActiv-D" four-cylinder diesel engine, but the company says it has a good reason. The Japanese automaker said more development work was required to "deliver the right balance between fuel economy and Mazda-appropriate driving performance," and that this would push the engine's launch past the anticipated Spring 2014 date.

Get out the binoculars, because there's been a 2015 Tesla Model X has been seen on public roads. Reportedly the only complete Model X in existence, the plug-in crossover was spotted about 10 miles from Tesla's design center in Hawthorne. Tesla last showed a Model X at the opening of its Palo Alto store in October.
The number of vehicles on China's roads continues to grow--and so does the severity of the country's air pollution. China became the first nation to surpass 20 million new-car sales last year, Bloomberg reports. That represents a 14 percent increase over 2012, and continues its reign as the world's largest car market.
French automobile maker PSA, responsible for the Peugeot and Citroen brands, has just sold the 50,000th example of a drivetrain we've not yet seen in the U.S.--diesel hybrids. PSA launched its diesel-hybrid system at the beginning of 2012. It's used in four different models on sale throughout Europe--Citroen's DS5 Hybrid4, Peugeot's 3008 and 508 Hybrid4, and the Peugeot RXH, a diesel-hybrid wagon.
