2014 Kia Sedona Gets NHTSA Five-Star Rating

The 2014 Kia Sedona minivan has earned the coveted five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The 2014 Sedona, mildly redesigned this year, joins the 2014 Kia Sorento crossover, which earned the five-star award earlier this year.

The NHTSA five-star rating is the government’s highest-possible vehicle safety rating. It is determined after severe testing procedures as part of the NHTSA’s New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). Crash tests combine scores from frontal, side-impact and rollover crash tests.

Both the LX and EX trim levels of the 2014 Sedona are included in the five-star rating. The Sedona passed the NHTSA’s frontal, side and side pole crash tests with the top five-star rating, while receiving a four-star rating in rollover testing.

Standard safety features on the Sedona include six airbags (dual advanced front and front seat-mounted side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags for all three rows of seating), active front headrests, tire pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control and traction control systems, and four-channel, four-sensor antilock brakes with electronic brake force distribution (EBD). Kia says the EBD system adapts to individual wheel grip conditions to help improve the minivan’s control and stability.

The base LX also has a standard backup warning system.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not yet tested the 2014 Kia Sedona.
