2013-2014 Toyota Tacoma Pickup Recalled For Engine Flaw

Follow Richard

Toyota has issued a recall for select 2013 and 2014 models of its popular Tacoma pickup. According to a bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, some of those vehicles may suffer from an engine flaw that could cause the Tacoma to stall in traffic -- or worse.

The problem stems from improperly built valve springs in the Tacoma's engine. Over time, wear and tear may cause the springs to break, and if that happens while a vehicle is being driven, the engine will stall, increasing the risk of an accident.

Thankfully, the faulty valve springs are found in a fairly small number of Tacomas built between July 1, 2013 and October 11, 2013. All told, 3,795 vehicles are included in the recall.

Toyota says that it will begin sending out recall notices this month. Once owners receive those notices, they'll be able to take their pickups to Toyota dealers, who will inspect and replace the valve springs at no charge.

If you believe you own one of the affected vehicles and have questions in the meantime, you're encouraged to contact  Toyota at 800-331-4331. Or if you prefer, you can ring NHTSA at 888-327-4236 and ask about recall campaign #13V557000.
