Tomorrow marks the start of press days for the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show, the first major auto show of the new model year. Frankfurt's show is biggest in Europe, in scope and sheer size, strung out among more than nine separate buildings, with close to 80 automotive brands represented, from Alpina to ZF.
Many will offer a world premiere or two, including Jaguar, with its C-X17 crossover; Mercedes-Benz, with its new 2015 GLA compact crossover; and Audi, with its latest quattro coupe concept.
Here’s a quick preview of some of the cars and concepts that will be on show, and for an in-depth look at all the vehicles be sure to bookmark Motor Authority’s dedicated Frankfurt Auto Show hub.

Volvo Concept Coupe
: Volvo will preview its future styling direction with a new coupe concept inspired by the automaker’s P1800 coupe launched during the 1960s. Its clean and somewhat aggressive look will first appear on the 2015 XC90 due late next year and will eventually appear on replacements for the S80 and S60 sedans as well as the XC60 crossover. The concept also previews Volvo’s future tech, namely, a fuel-efficient plug-in hybrid system with V-8-like performance.
: Jaguar plans to branch out into the lucrative world of crossovers and SUVs and will give us a glimpse of its first high-riding model with a new concept at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show. This teaser image gives us an early look at the concept, which is labeled the C-X17 and borrows styling influences from Jaguar’s F-Type sports car. The concept will also be used to introduce a modular platform that will not only underpin Jaguar’s new crossover but also a new sedan targeting BMW’s 3-Series.
: Toyota will preview a mass-market fuel cell vehicle it plans to launch with the FCV-R concept in Frankfurt. The FCV-R is a mid-size sedan with plenty of space for four adults and a driving range of up to 420 miles--all with zero emissions. The FCV-R is essentially an extended-range electric car with a hydrogen-powered fuel cell stack serving as the range extender instead of a conventional internal combustion engine. The production version is due in 2015.
: Infiniti will soon be expanding into the compact car segment with a stylish new hatch based on this Q30 concept. The Q30 will serve as Infiniti’s entry-level model and offer buyers of cars like the Audi A3, BMW 1-Series, Lexus CT 200h and Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class a new alternative. It hasn’t yet been announced for sale in the U.S. though we certainly hope it comes.
: Ford is giving us an early look at the styling and technology that will appear on its future passenger car lineup with a stylish MPV concept called the S-Max. The sleek look can already be seen on cars like the Fusion and it will also feature on the next Taurus and even the next Mustang. Some of the S-Max concept's technologies include a wireless Internet hotspot, a tablet docking station, a SYNC AppLink that allows drivers to control their smartphone apps via voice activation, and even a health and well-being system.
