The 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport compact crossover is being recalled to fix a potential sunroof defect.
A notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website puts the number of vehicles potentially affected by the recall at 3,181. Affected vehicles were built from August 26, 2010 through March 29, 2011.
At issue is the panoramic sunroof, which may have been improperly installed without primer being applied prior to the adhesive.
Sunroofs installed without the primer may have reduced adhesion, a condition which may result in the sunroof coming loose from the vehicle and posing a hazard to other vehicles on the road.
What Mitsubishi will do
Mitsubishi will notify owners and dealers will inspect the panoramic glass sunroof to determine if primer was used in the installation process. If primer is not present, the sunroof glass will be reinstalled.
A notification schedule has not yet been provided by Mitsubishi, but the automaker’s safety recall campaign number is SR-13-007.
