The issue could affect about 320,000 Odyssey vans in all, and it could lead to a recall.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were six reports from owners alleging that the frontal airbags deployed without a crash; in three of those cases, the owners also reported sustaining injuries as a result of the deployment.
In all six reported cases, the vehicle was being driven at the time of the deployment.
Separately, the NHTSA cited 41 consumer complaints alleging an illuminated airbag warning light.
The issue is potentially related to a circuit in the airbag module—produced by the same supplier, TRW Automotive, that has also prompted recalls in 2002-2003 Jeep Liberty and 2002-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee models, as well as the 2003-2004 Dodge Viper, and the 2003-2004 Toyota Corolla, Toyota Matrix, and Pontiac Vibe.
