The 2012/2013 auto show season has come to an end, and the finale was at the 2013 New York Auto Show. This year's show was chock full of reveals, from James Bond's new SUV to an awesome new Camaro. Land Rover revealed the new 2014 Range Rover Sport. This new generation is available with either a supercharged V-6 engine or a V-8, and it's lost about 800 pounds. That weight loss will help both driving dynamics and fuel efficiency. The interior is more luxurious than the last-generation, and the design now features some cues from the stylish Evoque.
Kia unveiled its new second-generation Soul hatchback with two new four-cylinder engines. There's a 130-horsepower, 1.6-liter four-cylinder or a 164-hp 2.0-liter four, both sending power to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. The new interior features Kia's UVO smartphone-based infotainment system and nicer materials.
The new 2014 Jeep Cherokee made its debut with a polarizing design, four- and six-cylinder engines, and even a Trailhawk model. It has the first nine-speed automatic transmission in production, and it's sized to compete against the Honda CR-V and Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. Production of the new Jeep Cherokee will begin later this year.
Cadillac introduced the all-new third-generation CTS luxury sports sedan with a stunning new design that's lower, longer, and lighter than the outgoing model. It will be available with three different engine options including a four-cylinder from the ATS, a direct-injection V-6 engine, and a new twin-turbo V-6 in the new range-topping Vsport model. Rear and all-wheel drive will be available.
Toyota has adopted some of the 4Runner's styling cues for the new 2014 Highlander, but it's all crossover inside. There are three rows of seating and new infotainment systems. The interior is slightly more spacious than the last generation, and there's new safety technology on the options list. The three powertrains are carried over from the previous model with a four-cylinder, six-cylinder, and hybrid offerings.
Mercedes-Benz finally showed us the hot new 2014 CLA45 AMG with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder rated at 355 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. All-wheel drive is standard as is a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Production starts later this year and it's been priced from $48,375.
