At first glance, February might seem like a strange time to launch a new convertible, but really, it makes perfect sense: in chilly weather like this, the thought of motoring under warm, sunny skies makes drop-tops all the more sexy.
At least, that's what Volkswagen is hoping. The automaker has just launched a new campaign around the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet called "As Sun As Possible". The campaign follows six young, attractive "sun seekers" around the Hawaiian island of Oahu. From now until February 17, VW fans will be able to keep up with the team's exploits as they travel in vintage editions of the Beetle Cabriolet from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.
Naturally, VW is hoping that you'll track the group's exploits on a special blog and on VW's Facebook page -- though at the moment, we can't find any mention of the promo there. Scheduled activities include the sorts of things you'd expect from a Hawaiian tour, including hula lessons, a class in Hawaiian cuisine (probably ending in a luau), and surfing. Lots and lots of surfing.
Which is all fine and dandy -- after all, the new Beetle Cab looks just as much fun as its predecessors. But the most important part of this promotion is that you can win a trip to Hawaii yourself. Judging from a VW press release, it appears that Volkswagen is running a sweepstakes campaign to select the winner via its Facebook page, but again, there's nothing on the page yet. (Perhaps someone should send VW's social media managers a few pounds of good, Hawaiian coffee.)
We'll update this post when details about the sweepstakes vacation appear.
