The mid-size sedan segment is heating up, with all-new entries from most of the major automakers either on sale now or arriving soon. Honda has finally revealed the new 2013 Accord in production trim, and it begs the question: Did Honda get the 2013 Accord's design right?

Honda is calling the new Accord's design sculpted and sharper. The front end is more swept back, and it features a new grille along with angular headlights. The sides have a stronger character line that runs the length of the car. The photos show new LED daytime running lights and LED taillights, though we aren't sure yet if those will be standard on all trim levels.

Ford revealed the new Fusion in January at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, and many were taken aback by the striking design. With styling cues that somewhat mimic both Jaguar and Aston Martin models, many feel that the new 2013 Fusion features exotic luxury-car styling for a reasonable price.


Both the current Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima feature aggressive styling with swept-back headlights and lots of sculpting. The wrap-around taillights on both models add visual width, making them appear larger than they really are.

    Come on Honda, you make a terrific sedan and other kinds of cars. Somebody gets paid a great deal of money for designs. Step up, and this is not it.

    It'll probably do OK with Honda loyalists but it shows none of the daring of its Korean competitors or even recent efforts from Ford for that matter(Fusion for example)

    It will be a great car, but the styling does nothing for me. The competition set the bar high and Honda hasn't tried to even reach for it. It is still surpassed by competition that plans to improve even more. The next Sonata should make this look stone aged.

    That's going to be their problem; they didn't "stretch" enough on the design. The next Sonata, et al, will do as you say...make this look old. Too bad, because Honda's dynamics are still ahead of their Korean competitors, but for how long?

    The competition can't compete. The only thing stone aged about the Accord is that it is ROCK SOLID. The current Accord in its 5th year had a sales increase of over 30, 2nd only to Camry. Nearly all the Accords are assembled in America, not overseas. Even the parts for the Accord are 80% North American made. This new model looks alot better to me than the current model when it first came out and that model continued to grow on me until we bought a 2010. Best Accord yet and the new one will be better. My experience? 12 Honda's and seven New Accords since 1983. Best resale value , best quality and the most fun to drive.

    We own a '08 Accord sedan EX-L and would have to see them side by side to tell a whole lot of difference. Maybe the rear end is a lot diff but don't see any pics of that on your site. What's with the "Touring" model ? Isn't the EX-L-NAV V-6 expensive enough ?

    Nothing appealing about this new design - same to be said about the last couple of iterations too. Honda (as well as Toyota) has not been able to embrace the aggressive stylized design many of the other brands have done well recently.

    I think the Accord's redesign threatens to put it in the same category as the Toyota Corolla or Camry: Cars for people who don't care at all about cars. They just want a box to transport them from Point A to Point B without causing any problems.

    The comments are all what I thought before I read them. Design department must be eating raw fish and drinking rice wine all day because it looks like a Camry. They are not on top of their design game at all. I own a 2006 Ridgeline, ready to update and not a word whats going on when other companies have 2013 cars on the lot for sale. Maybe they sit in the restroom all day and read the newspaper or play on their Ipods. This is really sad. No wonder Toyota is #1.

    YAWNNNN....Has the front and side changed? Any? And the slight rear redesign now looks like another excitingly styled car, the Toyota Avalon. Are these designers and the people that approve the designs on quaaludes?

    This is a well balanced car design. I feel middle-age and seniors will love the looks of the lines as they are not as erratic as some cars. Good conservative look. Well done, Honda!

    What a disappointment! This car maintains the stodgy image of the last few generations; I doubt too many buyers will consider this a fresh look. Only one other car in this segment can compete with Honda for "Bland Sedan of the Year"; that's the Camry. I can't see this new design drawing too many customers into Honda showrooms.

    This is coming from a long-time Honda loyalist; I've bought 14 new Hondas since my first Accord in 1976. All have been first-rate mechanically. But the last generation of Accord was a sorry excuse for an update, and this one is no better. Honda's style (or lack of it) led me to buy my first Hyundai when my last Accord came up for replacement. Sorry Honda, but reliability isn't the only thing buyers look at.

    Although this design is an improvement over the current design, it looks way too much like our 2009 Camry which we just traded in for a 2013 Escape Titanium (which was amost a 2012 Honda CRV until we saw and drove the Escape). Honda - give us something new instead of old!!!!!

    The styling is an improvement over the previous model, but it looks like a VW clone. Surely Honda can do better than this.

    Honda just played it way too safe! This car will Look stale in just two years. Honda has become a follower not a leader. Hyundai will keep on gaining market share. Very sad. I've owned Honda's and Acuras, but I might have to look at other brands. Fire the design team!

    Honda is notorious for taking really uninspiring photos of its products.     And, for those of you with Sonata-envy, please consider that the Sonata is this year's '96 Taurus - all edgy and daring but in a few years tired and, well, silly.

    Even though Honda designs are not as flashy as most, there is a reason for it, and that reason is you don't grow tired of it. People keep Hondas a long time, and the design needs to be one of low key and good taste, not some here today, gone tomorrow flash in the pan. How do I know? I have an 05 that when I bought it I felt like it wasn't as nice looking as most cars out there, but compared to other 05's now, it looks much better. Thinking about a new one since my son just took my old one!

    Absolutely not. Honda completely and utterly dropped the ball as this is a totally uninspired, forgettable refresh of the prior model that once again demonstrates that Honda/Acura design studios do not have a clue as to how to design a stunningly beautiful car that could sell on its styling alone.
    This car's styling in not at all competitive with the Optima, new Fusion or new Mazda 6. As life time Honda owner, Honda continues to disappoint me. Honda continues to design cars for people who don't have any passion for cars and look it cars as appliances. Although I like some of the features of the Accord the styling or lack of style is a complete "deal breaker" for me and I will probably be replacing my Accord with an Optima,Fusion,Mazda 6
