Just a day after Lincoln released a configurator and estimated pricing on the 2013 Lincoln MKZ mid-size luxury sedan, prices are now official: the starting base price is $36,800 (including $875 destination charges).

The big news is two-fold. First, the pricing is $175 less than that of the MKZ’s main competitor, the 2013 Lexus ES 350 (excluding $875 destination charges). The base price on the 2013 Lincoln MKZ is $35,925, while the 2013 Lexus ES 350 starts out at $36,100. Both have identical $875 destination charges. This results in a net base price of $36,800 for the Lincoln MKZ and $36,975 for the Lexus ES 350.

Second, there’s no price hike for consumers who choose the MKZ Hybrid, continuing a practice Ford has with the current MKZ.

Note that the starting base price on the 2013 Lincoln MKZ is $295 more than the 2012 model. The 2013 Lincoln MKZ will be in dealerships in late fall.

2013 Lincoln MKZ available in four trims

Consumers can choose from the MKZ’s four tiered trim lines: Premiere, Select, Reserve and Preferred. The base Premiere includes push-button start, remote start, Active Noise Control, LED headlights, a 10.1-inch LED instrument panel, and an 8-inch touch-screen display. Two engine choices include the 240-horsepower 2.0-liter EcoBoost or the 300-horsepower 3.7-liter V-6.

Moving up to the Select trim ($37,900, including destination charges) adds a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, HD radio, a wood steering wheel and more. Reserve ($39,950) builds includes all the features in the Select trim and adds blind-spot detection with cross-traffic alert, a voice-recognition navigation system, power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, cooled seats, and a power decklid.

Top-of-the-line Preferred is available with single-panel moonroof (starting at $42,455) and Preferred with retractable panoramic roof (starting at $45,125). Each has all the Reserve features plus THX-II certified audio system, heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, a 110-vold powerpoint, premium floor mats, and 19-inch painted/polished wheels.

All 2013 Lincoln MKZ sedans offer inflatable outboard rear seat belts.
