Results of volunteer installations
Parents volunteering for the study showed just how wide-ranging the problem of correct child seat installation can be. They used the lower anchors correctly only 60 percent of the time and top tethers were used correctly with forward-facing child restraints only 48 percent of the time.
Overall, parents and caregivers correctly installed child seats with lower anchors and top tethers “for a secure, tight fit at the right angle” in just 13 percent of the cases.
