Chevrolet has released full details on the revamped 2013 Traverse eight-passenger family crossover ahead of its debut at the 2012 New York Auto Show.
New front “face” for Chevy’s crossovers
In the release announcing the details of the new Traverse, the key phrase is that the more expressive front end introduces a “new face” for Chevrolet crossover utilities.
While a vehicle is certainly more than simply the front appearance, the new look of the Chevy Traverse is an attention-getter. Highlights include the “powerdome” hood similar to that on the Malibu and Camaro, new headlights, and chrome-accented fog lamps and grille.
The front corners are also sculpted, again, similar to that on the 2013 Malibu sedan.
Being a family vehicle, the 2013 Chevy Traverse offers up more appealing soft-touch materials on surfaces, available blue ambient lighting, and, of course, standard three-row seating on all models.
Second-row seating is available with captain’s chairs or three-passenger bench. Parents and children will find the second-row SmartSlide feature offers easy access to the third row. And, important for large families, that third row can comfortably fit three adults.
There’s also 24.4 cubic feet of cargo capacity behind the third-row seat.
With safety always a prime consideration in any family vehicle, the 2013 Chevrolet Traverse ups the ante even more with the industry’s first front center airbag (that also appears on the 2013 GMC Acadia). This safety feature provides additional protection to occupants during far-side impact crashes.
Other standard Traverse safety features include standard head-curtain side airbags with rollover protection; StabiliTrak electronic stability control with rollover mitigation technology; safety belt pretensioners; LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children); four-wheel disc brake system with ABS; hill-start assist brakes; rearview camera system; tire pressure monitoring system, and OnStar.
Standard on LTZ and available on other Traverse models is Side Blind Zone Alert with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert system.
The 2013 Chevrolet Traverse will be available in LS, LT and LTZ models and will go on sale in the fourth quarter of this year. Pricing has not yet been announced.
