The 2012 CR-V, available in front-wheel drive (FWD) and a new version of Honda’s Real Time all-wheel-drive (AWD) system comes equipped with a single engine, a 185-horsepower 2.4-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder engine that delivers 163 pound-feet of torque. The four-cylinder is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission.
EPA-estimated fuel economy is rated at 23 mpg city/31 mpg highway/26 mpg combined in FWD CR-Vs and 23/30/25 mpg city/highway/combined in AWD models. That’s an increase of 2 mpg highway and combined for FWD/AWD and 2 mpg city (FWD) and 1 mpg city (AWD) compared to the 2011 CR-V.
Every new CR-V now has a green “Eco Assist” button which shows the driver when the CR-V is operating at its most efficient. There’s also a selectable ECON mode to alter the crossover’s driving characteristics (with “different operating parameters for throttle, transmission and air conditioning”) to support greater efficiency.
Safety features in the 2012 Honda CR-V include Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with traction control, four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic brake distribution (EBD) and brake assist, six airbags, whiplash mitigation front seat design, LATCH system, driver and front passenger seatbelt reminders, front seatbelts with automatic tensioners and load limiters, adjustable head restraints for all seating positions, tire pressure monitoring system, and daytime running lights.
The 2012 Honda CR-V goes on sale at Honda dealerships December 15. Pricing has not yet been released.
