Fiat's rollout of the 2012 500 is ramping up to warp speed. Not only have we seen special Gucci editions of the city car, but we recently spotted a new commercial for the 500 starring Jennifer Lopez zooming rapidly around the block from whence she comes. Now, there's another 500 special edition on the way, and proceeds from its sale will benefit breast cancer research.
The 2012 Fiat 500 Pink Ribbon Edition will go on sale in October (which is breast cancer awareness month), but you can already take a full tour of the vehicle on Fiat's website. Starting at $22,000, it's slightly more expensive than the $19,500 2012 Fiat 500 Lounge model on which it's based, but built into that price is a $1,000 donation to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).
Given that Fiat is making 250 units of the Pink Ribbon Edition, BCRF stands the chance of earning up to $250,000 from the sale of these vehicles. On the off chance that the vehicles don't sell well, though, Fiat has promised to contribute a minimum of $50,000 to BCRF.
Other than the satisfaction of supporting a worthy cause, what else will buyers of the Pink Ribbon Edition receive for their money? As with most special models, the details for this one are primarily cosmetic: pink accents that contrast with the black interior, black leather seats with pink stitching, and pink ribbons embroidered into the floor mats. The Pink Ribbon Edition is available in silver or white, and it comes with a pink ribbon body stripe, as well as a special 500 logo, highlighted with a pink ribbon.
Understandably, the folks at BCRF are thrilled by this high-profile fundraising opportunity. BCRF President Myra J. Biblowit said, "The partnership with FIAT is especially exciting as it allows breast cancer supporters to literally drive awareness for the cause year round." We probably wouldn't have gone so far with the "driving" pun, but we can't argue with raising money for a great cause.
