Has finding a parking garage with open spots become a headache? It's about to get a lot easier for people in San Francisco with a new text-messaging service.

The new service is being tested by the city transportation officials in an effort to help motorists find a place to park their vehicle immediately in one of the 14 city-owned parking lots.

To use the service, motorists simply text the number "877877" and enter the code for which garage they would like to park in, or simply enter "SFpark" for a list of all parking garages. A response will be sent to the motorist.

The goal of the program is to reduce congestion and pollution connected with searching for a parking spot.

  1. NOTICE her DRIVING while using a CELL PHONE -- horrible practice = distracted driver - 25X more likely to cause an accident than if she had two beers!

    Bad stuff?

  2. Swell. One more excuse for drivers to be doing something other than keeping both hands on the wheel and looking where they're going. And it's paid for with tax dollars.

  3. Shouldn't the city be discouraging drivers from texting while behind the wheel? Really a bad idea.
