2012 Volkswagen Passat
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has just named the redesigned 2012 Volkswagen Passat mid-size sedan a Top Safety Pick.
The Passat earned its status as a result of good performance in all four of the IIHS’s safety evaluations (front, side, rollover and rear crash tests). Electronic stability control (ESC) is standard equipment as required by federal regulation as of September 1, 2011.
Volkswagen builds the 2012 Passat at its new plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Besides the Passat, the automaker has seven other current vehicles that have earned the IIHS’s Top Safety Pick award: the 2011-2012 CC 2.0L TSI, 2011 Jetta, Jetta SportWagen, Tiguan, Touareg, and four-door models of the Golf and GTI.
