2012 Lexus IS
Details are now available on the 2012 Lexus IS line and, although the changes aren’t dramatic since the restyled IS range was introduced last year, there’s enough to satisfy consumers looking for a well-contented luxury family sedan.
Sedan and convertible models are available in the IS line and two engines power the lineup. Standard in the IS 250 is the 204-horsepower 2.5-liter V-6 engine making 185 pound-feet of torque. Optional in the IS 350 is the 306-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 that puts out 277 pound-feet of torque. Zero-to-60 mph takes just 5.6 seconds in the IS 350. Six-speed manual and automatic transmissions are available across the board.
Rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) are available, but if you want to go for the F Sport package, it’s available in RWD only.
The IS F Sport package, inspired by the IS F ultra-performance sedan, features special suspension and steering tuning, 18-inch alloy wheels, front and rear spoilers, dark chrome front grille insert and special Ultrasonic Blue exterior color.
Inside, there’s F Sport badging on the steering wheel, shift knob and doorsill scuff plates, along with special F Sport heated front seats with microfiber inserts and leather side bolsters for more driver/passenger grip during cornering.
Although leather-trimmed 10-way power front seats are standard, buyers may want even more. The optional Luxury Plus package includes leather-trimmed seats, heated/ventilated front seats, three-position memory for the driver’s seat, outside mirrors and steering wheel, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming outside mirrors and power tilt and telescopic steering column.
Other available luxury features include a 14-speaker Mark Levinson sound system and Lexus Enform telematics and Safety Connect. That’s if you want to move up from the standard 13-speaker sound system.
Optional safety features
Optional in the IS 250 and standard in the IS 350 are High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps with LED daytime running lamps. The IS 350 also has standard headlamp washers.
With optional navigation system, the rear back-up camera automatically projects what’s in its lens behind the car onto the navigation screen when the car is in reverse. Turn signals are integrated in the exterior mirrors.
Another family-friendly safety feature is the optional Intuitive Park Assist system which uses ultrasonic sensors to detect objects close to the front and rear bumpers. This helps alert the driver and shows distance to objects in the speedometer’s multi-function display. With the optional navigation system, there’s even greater detail on detected objects on the nav system’s seven-inch touchscreen display.
New colors for the 2012 IS sedan include Fire Agate Pearl, which takes the place of Glacier Frost Mica, and Nebula Gray Pearl replacing Smoky Granite Mica.
