2013 Cadillac ATS teaser
The official announcement confirms what’s been suspected for quite some time: Cadillac will introduce a new compact luxury sports sedan in the summer of 2012. For now, its codename is the Cadillac ATS.
Impetus for the new rear-wheel drive ATS sports sedan is Cadillac’s intention to compete against the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4 in the largest segment of the luxury market.
The ATS is smaller than the Cadillac CTS, the brand's mid-sized sedan. It will be built at GM’s assembly plant near Lansing, Michigan, where today’s CTS is assembled. In preparation for the new luxury sports sedan, GM has invested $190 in the plant, which will result in 600 new or retained jobs.
For now, all we have is the first teaser shot from General Motors and the words from GM North America President Mark Reuss that “ATS starts a new chapter for Cadillac in the luxury market’s C-segment.”
What’s at stake is attracting luxury car buyers who wouldn’t previously have considered a Cadillac. As we always say, it’s all in the details, and the marketplace will ultimately decide.
When more details become available on the 2013 Cadillac ATS, FamilyCarGuide will be all over it.
