2012 Ford Explorer
Family buyers looking for a fuel-efficient, affordable full-size SUV may find what they’re looking for in the 2012 Ford Explorer. The base Explorer with available EcoBoost four-cylinder engine is priced from $29,990, up to $39,560 for the top-of-the-line Limited. Prices include $825 destination charge.
Ford offers the EcoBoost engine on all three Explorer trim lines, base, XLT, and Limited. Price-wise, EcoBoost-equipped Explorers are between the V-6 front-drive and all-wheel drive models. Choosing the EcoBoost engine cost an additional $995 over the standard 290-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 engine in all three trim levels.
With fuel efficiency among the primary considerations for family buyers, the 240-horsepower 2.0-liter EcoBoost direct-injected and turbocharged four-cylinder engine achieves an EPA-rated fuel economy of 20 mpg city/28 mpg highway in front-wheel drive configuration. EcoBoost is not available with all-wheel drive.
